There are multiple bills sponsored already in Texas that affect the parent-child relationship in one way or another. One bill makes it criminal for a Guardian ad Litem to release confidential information. Another bill puts a time limit of one year on a temporary order when the suit is filed by a nonparent. And another bill proposes equal parenting, HB453, although this bill still leaves that up to the judge’s discretion.
And the Texas Family Law Foundation has been actively opposing the equal parenting bill using many different tactics, like stating that “proponents of the bill” have a “misconception” that equal parenting leads to no child support, and saying that the current expanded standard possession order is already almost equal (just a difference of 3.5 days).
You can find all of the legislative bills that have been adopted that affect the parent-child relationship here.
So it looks like if you want to talk to a legislator that cares about the laws that affect parent-child relationships, the best ones to start with are the following legislators in Texas:
FALLON
WU
ORTEGA
WHITE (James White sponsors the equal parenting bill.)
KRAUS
THOMPSON, SENFRONIA
