Every day in this country, thousands of fit parents are separated from their children. We hear of horrendous divorce custody battles where children are placed in the middle, not by parents, but by the courts. We hear heartbreaking stories of children dying in State care after having been taken from fit parents.
People of all political persuasions agree that children are better off when they have two fit parents caring for them. People of all persuasions agree that fit parents are better for children than State care. None of us dreamed of having children that belong to the State and that the State can take away at a whim. We expect that unless we break a law in a way that harms our children that it is for us to raise our children ourselves.
Our United States Supreme Court in 2000 said it cannot now be doubted that parents have fundamental constitutional rights to make decisions regarding the care, custody, and control of their children. For numerous reasons, these rights are being ignored and trampled daily.
This book is designed to get our federal and state legislators focused on the issues and focused on solutions. This book is a call to action and an emphatic statement by parents and prospective parents that we expect our parental rights to be acknowledged and respected.
