Dear Senators,

I am asking that you consider placing HB2363, equal parenting bill, as an amendment onto one of the following bills. If you cannot place HB2363 onto one of these bills and you know of a bill that you can, please place it onto any bill that you think you can get this through on. Please let me know what action you will or will not be taking.

HB364 (Received from the House)

HB545 (referred to state affairs)

HB331 (scheduled for public hearing)

HB1449 (referred to state affairs)

HB3121 (S referral to state affairs)

HB943 (Referred to state affairs)

HB 3914

Thanks for making my child’s life important and for protecting the children of Texas from the unconstitutional and extremely adversarial and destructive practices that have been perpetuated by the current policies of this state.

If you doubt that the current standard possession order of this state is unconstitutional please check out our book, “NOT in The Child’s Best Interest” and in the back there are 90 citations that refer to the United States Supreme Court cases where parents and children are declared to have these rights protected by the constitution of the United States. If you have further questions, feel free to get in contact with me.

Thank you for making this a priority.

HB2363 might have died on its own due to time restraints, but there is a chance for you to try and revive the bill still!

There is a small possibility that YOU can get the Equal Parenting Bill, HB2363 attached to another bill as an amendment. Sometimes you will hear these referred to as “riders.”

Here’s the criteria: At this point, the bill that we could attach it to must be germane to our bill, have passed through the House, and still be in the Senate. There are a few bills that fit this criteria. Those have been listed below. These have to be heard by Thursday so start calling now!

Some words of caution: You might run into a bit of resistance from some of these sponsors because HB2363 could be seen as a “wrecking amendment” or a “poison pill” that is being used to kill their bill. Many of the bills listed below received unanimous approval from their committees and asking them to place a bill onto theirs may not seem favorable to them at first.

On the flip side of this, Bills that are controversial many times are placed as riders or amendments onto bills because they otherwise would not pass on their own. If you find that one of these house representatives really believes in HB2363 and they feel that their bill is very strong (and if their bill has a lot of other riders on it that the house reps are motivated to pass to get all of their bills through as amendments) they just might stick it on there.

Scroll below for the contact phone numbers, names, and information on the bills that meet the criteria.

Rep. SENFRONIA THOMPSON’s Bills:

Rep. Senfronia Thompson has 4 bills that have made it through the House and are positioned right to be able to take HB2363 as an amendment. These four bills are HB1449, HB1500, and HB3121. Please only call her once and mention all three bills to her and ask her if she would consider putting HB2363 onto one of them as a rider. Ask her to consider her strongest bill. This way the bill is not likely to be affected by adding HB2363 on there. Remember, as mentioned earlier, if a rider is placed on a bill that others want then it is less likely that they will kill the favorable bill because the unfavorable provision is on there.

HB1449 (referred to state affairs)

e-mail Brete Anderson regarding HB1449 and HB1500 at brete.anderson@house.tx.us and ask him to pull up HB2363 and ask Senfronia and the Senate sponsor if they will add this as an amendment to this bill. (Senfronia and the Senate sponsor both have to be told about the amendment. The senate can add the amendment even if the house rep doesn’t want it but it is always better if they both agree. It is Brete’s job to work on that between the house and senate on these bills.)

HB1449 is Relating to child custody evaluations and adoption evaluations conducted and testimony provided in certain suits affecting the parent-child relationship; providing penalties; creating an offense; authorizing fees.

e-mail Brete Anderson regarding HB1449 and HB1500 at brete.anderson@house.tx.us and ask him to pull up HB2363 and ask Senfronia and the Senate sponsor if they will add this as an amendment to this bill. (Senfronia and the Senate sponsor both have to be told about the amendment. The senate can add the amendment even if the house rep doesn’t want it but it is always better if they both agree. It is Brete’s job to work on that between the house and senate on these two bills.)

After you ask if they will consider adding HB2363 bill as an amendment to one of their bills. If they agree, please let us know so we can put together the next Call-To-Action. We will need to contact the Senator/s that are sponsoring the bill on the Senate side and ask the same of them.

===================================

Another option is to amend a bill that has not been heard on the House floor yet and try to push it through as an amendment. One bill fits that criteria. Although it is not likely to be heard due to the same time restraints and procedural roadblocks that we faced with HB2363, it is worth a try!

The chances of this one being heard by Thursday are slim and this one may die just like HB2363 did due to time restraints. Call anyway and make the connection with this representative and let her know that you would like her to amend her bill.
